Over 8,000 Oregon AFSCME-Represented Workers Settle Contract with OHSU

Portland, OR — After 11 months of bargaining, more than 8,000 workers represented by Oregon AFSCME Local 328 have reached a tentative agreement with Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) following a breakthrough at the bargaining table. The two parties agreed to a 3 year contract that reflects the cost of living in Portland.
From the start of negotiations, OHSU workers have been clear about their core goal: securing a contract that provides living wages and safe staffing on the job for the people who keep one of Oregon’s largest public employers running.
“This tentative agreement is a major step toward a living wage for the workers who keep OHSU running,” said Jennie Olson, Grants & Contracts Administrator and President of AFSCME Local 328. “Our members shouldn’t have to choose between caring for patients and affording to live in the community they serve.”
The tentative agreement includes wins such as a ratification bonus, better protection for sick healthcare workers, increased time off, and will be presented to union members for a ratification vote in the coming days.
“With guaranteed raises, a ratification bonus, and additional time off, our members can better afford to take care of themselves and continue providing the care we all depend on.” said Jenn Roemer, Respiratory Therapist Charge and Local 328 bargaining team member.
