OHSU Workers Rally for Fair Pay and Respect

Earlier this summer, hundreds of OHSU workers met at the Mac Hall lawn to demand better from OHSU—better pay, better treatment, and real respect on the job. Members of AFSCME Local 328 and ONA’s Advanced Practice Providers (ONA/APU) stood united in the fight for livable wages, a safe workplace, and contracts that reflect their essential contributions to Oregon’s academic medical center.

The rally sent a clear message: OHSU workers are not backing down.

Local 328 has entered mediation with management and continues to fight for a contract that sets a real minimum wage—one that honors the frontline work being done across the institution. OHSU’s offer? $1 the first year, $0.50 in the second, and a 1.75% 7raise in the third. In a city like Portland, it doesn’t even begin to keep up with the cost of living.

“This is about survival,” said Local 328 President Jennie Olson. “We show up every day for our patients. We deserve raises that reflect our value and help us afford to live where we work.”

Together, Local 328 members are building the pressure OHSU can’t ignore—and they won’t stop until every worker has a fair contract and a wage they can live on. Local 328 and Research Workers United are hosting a Summer Solidarity event on Wednesday, July 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Mac Hall lawn. There will be free lunch, raffle prizes, and a chance to connect with coworkers, reminding everyone of the power of the union difference as 328 union members continue this fight.
