Frontline workers represented by AFSCME demand fair wages, safer staffing, and enhanced patient care protections in their first union contract.

Portland, OR — Bargaining their first contract since organizing with Oregon AFSCME, Legacy workers have been focused on solving serious workplace issues affecting patient care as well as the safety of those providing and receiving care at Legacy, only to see management bring status quo proposals, or worse in response.

“Management has thus far neglected to address serious worker issues like workplace safety, adequate breaks, education benefits and appropriate 1:1 time and resources to meet patients’ needs” said Tonya Bonifer, a Physical Therapist at Legacy Emanuel and member of the union bargaining team.

Seeing little progress, on Friday, November 6th, workers provided management with the legally required ten day notice that they intend to hold an informational picket on Tuesday, November 17th.

“This is a fight for safety and security, not just for the people providing top quality care at Legacy, but the thousands of Oregonians who depend on us” added Bonifer.
